"Pookie": The Enigmatic Man

In equating the current Bush administration to the Cash Money Brothers of New Jack City on Professor Hill's blog, I jokingly made the comparison between Pookie, the strung out crackhead in the film, and Claude Allen, the former senior White House official who is alleged to have stolen about $5,000 worth of merchandise from Target. The basis of my equation was simple: both these brothers got caught out there in the worst way. Pookie, when he valiantly acted as a police informant (resulting in his brutal murder), and Allen, when he was caught on a Target store security camera stealing (the ramifications of which are still to be determined).

Yesterday's Washington Post offers an article entitled "The Enigmatic Man", which attempts to paint a complete picture of Allen's character. Most are just familiar with him as the black Republican who shamefully got caught for stealing, while obviously, there is a more complete character sketch to be understood.

Check the article and let me know what you think. For quick reference, a list of Allen's lofty career accomplishments can be found below:

-University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
-Law bar association president.
-U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals law clerk.
-Baker Botts, the law firm of former secretary of state James A. Baker III.
-Virginia attorney general's office.
-Virginia secretary of health.
-Deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
-Nominee to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.
-White House domestic policy adviser.

It doesn't seem to make sense. Maybe it was his twin brother that did this and he's just taking the rap.
