Question of the Day

This question is more for our female readers than anyone else. There is a remarkable chemistry amongst the brothers here at PGM. Early on we made a conscious decision to, for lack of a better phrase, "keep it brotherly." The likelihood of this changing is minimal, but I think it's important to hear those voices who think we could benefit (or not) from having a female perspective.

Do you think PGM should have sister contributors from our alma mater? Please explain.

I can only speak for myself, but your "keeping it amongst the brothers" attitude has made me less interested in your blog than I was a year ago. By maintaining that ideal, you are biased as to what you discuss and say. I remember a post that was made early last year that involved women's rights. When I did respond to your posting, I felt my post was viewed through a biased lense and was, thus, disregarded by most of the opinions of the "brothers." After that I figured I was wasting my time, so I visiting this blog altogether for a long period of time. I now only visit it once or twice a month or in extreme bouts of boredom. The posts have lost their original intellectual zest which I so enjoyed in the beginning.

Kyle, as I too can only speak for myself, I find your comment troubling. I don't think "keeping it brotherly" equates to "keep women out," or "supress the woman's point of view," or anything like that. I can't help but engage in conversation with my beliefs and sadly, my bias. But I don't think that is different than anyone else, and I believe this is a forum to discuss current events and set people straight when need be. The fact that you felt like your point of view was disregarded is the exact opposite of what I want people to walk away with.

However, we do not set out to do that here. We have engaged many different points of view, including extreme ideologies from white supremacists. I point to that not to say that your comments were extreme, but to say that I enjoy the diversity of comments, and therefore the debate that follows. I really enjoy the debate, but please don't confuse my zeal to debate for disrespect of your (or any other) point of view.
